Revitalizing Broadmoor
The Broadmoor Initiative is a focused revitalization project launched by Habitat for Humanity Mississippi Capital Area (HFHMCA) to restore and strengthen the Broadmoor neighborhood in Jackson, Mississippi.
The effort began when HFHMCA noticed that while some homes in Broadmoor were beyond repair and needed to be demolished (through the city's Blight Elimination Project), many others were still structurally sound but simply needed repairs and improvements. Seeing streets filled with beautiful lots, HFHMCA realized it was possible to turn the tide and revitalize Broadmoor, which has a rich history. Developed after World War II as a neighborhood for returning military, streets were named Normandy, Manila, Broadmoor, and Churchill. It became, and continues to be, an important part of North Jackson, featuring good schools, access to jobs, groceries, healthcare and more - all factors HFHMCA looks for when choosing areas for investment.
The Broadmoor Initiative Focuses On:
Demolishing blighted properties and replacing with new homes.
Rehabilitating solid but aging homes.
Partnering with local stakeholders, residents, churches, businesses, corporate sponsors and city staff to rebuild a thriving neighborhood.
Strengthening an already historic and vibrant community, preserving its character and ensuring opportunities for future generations.
